Royal Mail Issues Duran Duran Stamps, Collectibles

The new collection features artwork from eight classic albums, including their 1981 debut and 2021's Future Past.

Britain's Royal Mail issues a new range of Duran Duran stamps and collectibles, celebrating the new wave band's music. The collection features artwork from eight classic Duran Duran albums, including their 1981 self-titled debut and 2021's Future Past.

The official stamps will also include art from "Rio," "Seven And The Ragged Tiger," "Notorious," and the 1993 comeback collection known as "The Wedding Album." This initiative honors the band's four decades of creativity and influence in the music industry.

Royal Mail states the collection celebrates "one of Britain’s most innovative and influential bands" with "iconic album artwork, exclusive collectibles and limited-edition memorabilia." The collection's headline reads "BOLD. VISIONARY. EVER-EVOLVING." with a sub-header of "From bold beginnings to boundless creativity."

The mail service offers more than 30 collectibles, ranging from stamp sets and posters to presentation packs, postcards, and framed sheets. Some items are available for purchase starting September 17.

Pricing for the collection begins at 30p (40c) for a Duran Duran "First Day" envelope. A full sheet of 1st Class stamps featuring "The Wedding Album" artwork is priced at £86.40 ($116.85).

Duran Duran joins a select group of artists honored by Royal Mail with special stamp issues. Previous recipients include AC/DC, The Who, and the Spice Girls, recognizing their significant cultural impact.

This recognition underscores Duran Duran's enduring legacy, having been one of the biggest bands in the 1980s and experiencing a late-career renaissance. The band continues to perform globally and release new music.

In 2022, Duran Duran was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, adding to their numerous accolades. Frontman Simon Le Bon was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by King Charles in 2024 for his contributions to music and charity.

The band's recent activities include headlining BTS Hyde Park on July 5 and completing a residency at Bleaulive in Las Vegas. They also embarked on arena and festival tours across North America and Europe, releasing a new collaboration with Nile Rodgers, "Free to Love."

The Royal Mail's stamp issue serves as a testament to the band's sustained relevance and artistic output. Future sales figures and public reception will indicate the commercial success of this commemorative collection.
